E.P.I.C. | Plastic Pollution Emergency Response™
Thanks to our program delivery partnership with Charitable Impact Foundation and Canadian Urban Planning Foundation.
Ocean plastic pollution is an epic problem—representing an epic opportunity for philanthropic impact.
The impact of your support is cumulative—every dollar counts to move the work forward.
On average, it costs approximately $4–$5 per pound for us to safely remove plastic pollution from the environment. This includes real-world expenses such as vessels, helicopters, safety gear, crews, and processing. This means:
Whether you take pride in your gift funding pounds removed, crews deployed, or infrastructure strengthened, each contribution supports the EPIC system as a whole.
Executes large-scale, professional removal of plastic pollution from sensitive environments (200 paid seasonal positions on Ocean Legacy cleanup teams).
Ensures communities have the tools, training, and confidence to prevent plastic pollution locally.
Builds the systems that turn recovered plastic into economic value.
Together, these interconnected programs stabilize and activate the full EPIC model—linking cleanup, infrastructure, policy, and education into a single, functioning system.

Ocean Legacy lives through the people who work on the water, in processing facilities, and alongside communities dealing with plastic pollution every day. Through our EPIC Program—Education, Policy, Infrastructure, and Cleanup—we remove plastic from the environment, prevent it at the source, and build the infrastructure needed to keep it from coming back.
Leadership Giving provides the working capital behind this effort: paid crews, equipment, processing capacity, training, research, and the ability to act when conditions demand it.
As we look ahead to an epic year in 2026, we are excited to introduce donors to a new charitable giving opportunity: Ocean Legacy’s work can now be supported by donations to a dedicated Charitable Impact Foundation giving group, thanks to our program delivery partnership with the Canadian Urban Planning Foundation. This structure enables leadership supporters to engage with Ocean Legacy’s work in a personally philanthropic capacity, to fund our environmental restoration and circular economy education programs.
