MELT FLOW ANALYSIS

Understanding melt flow characteristics of plastics provides useful guidance for determining extruder parameters, compounding ratios, and determining best use cases for recycled materials.

Melt flow analysis provides a measurement of the rate of flow of plastic melt through a standardized pore, and for a nominal temperature and load. The melt flow rate (MFR) provides useful guidance for determining extruder parameters, compounding ratios, and determining use cases for recycled materials.

MOISTURE ANALYSIS

Understanding moisture levels in plastic materials is important to avoid processing variability and material degradation, and for providing quality control and assurance information for both internal and external use.

Moisture Analysis is conducted by heating a sample specimen to a nominal temperature and measuring the change in the weight of the sample to represent the loss of moisture by evaporation. Standard Melt-Flow Analysis [OLAL-SMF]:

The standard melt flow analysis yields the melt flow rate [g / 10 min] (MFR), melt volume rate [cm3 / 10 min] (MVR) and melt density [g / cm3] for a given temperature and load. The test conditions used are aligned with ASTM D1238 and testing can be conducted for a range of different polymer types and material forms including regrind, fiber and pellet.

Standard Moisture Analysis [OLAL-SMA]:

The standard moisture analysis yields the moisture percentage [%] for a given set of test parameters. We have experience conducting ASTM D6980 testing on pellet, ground materials and fiber. We can also provide guidance around sampling and sample handling best practice to ensure your results are representative of your product or process.
